Pre-K Counts

Where children develop literacy skills and independence.

Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts

Pre-K Counts is a place where children will develop literacy skills, become more independent, work with other children, develop thinking skills, learn to share, and feel safe in a new place. Enroll your child in CABC’s Pre-K Counts program and give them a great start to a bright future.

Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts (Pre-K Counts) offers high-quality full-day pre-kindergarten programs for eligible 3- and 4-year-olds, preparing them for success in school. Pre-K Counts provides individualized instruction with certified teachers, teacher assistants, and paraprofessionals in each classroom. The curriculum follows the PA Early Learning Standards, and the progress of all children is reviewed regularly. Children receive healthy meals and snacks daily at no cost.

Pre-K Counts provides high-quality early education for children ages 3 to 5. To qualify, children must be 3 years old by the school district’s kindergarten cut-off date. The program supports:

  • Children from families earning 300% or less of the federal poverty level.
  • English language learners.
  • Children with special needs.

This program helps prepare young learners for a strong start in school.

Why does my child need to attend a pre-kindergarten program?

High-quality pre-kindergarten helps children build the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. It prepares them not only for reading and math but also for paying attention, following directions, and getting along with others. Children who attend Pre-K Counts classrooms are more likely to do well in school, graduate from high school, and pursue college or career training. By enrolling your eligible child in Pre-K Counts, you’re giving them a strong start that fosters a love for learning and sets the foundation for future success!

How much does Pre-K Counts cost?

Pre-K Counts is FREE to eligible families. Children must meet eligibility criteria, including household income guidelines. To be eligible, children must be living in families earning up to 300 percent of the federal income poverty level.

What other services are offered?

CABC Pre-K Counts is staffed with a Family Child Advocate (FCA) who supports families throughout the eligibility and enrollment process. Once enrolled, the FCA ensures that required screenings, such as an up-to-date physical and dental, are scheduled and completed. The FCA is also available to provide resources and support in areas like parenting, community connections, and referrals. Family engagement opportunities are also provided throughout the year in every classroom, giving parents and caregivers a chance to connect with other families and participate inthe school community. The FCA works to build positive relationships with families and promote overall family well-being. Additionally, two parent-teacher conferences are conducted each year to allow staff and families to connect and discuss goals for their child.
